BANANEFIT - Yoga Music benefit concert for Bonobo Apes - w/ Sean Johnson & the Wild Lotus band
BANANEFIT 6/23 - a yoga music & Kirtan fundraiser for Bonobo ape conservation and musical research.

Join Sean Johnson & the Wild Lotus band, Gaura Vani and SuperTrine for a party with a purpose !! Opening Kirtan acts include Gita's Dream and Rufus Juskus.

Yoga music and Kirtan will be presented at American Universities Mary Graydon Center on June 23rd. Hatha Yoga will be held on the Quad from 5-6pm with Faith Hunter.
special guest support acts include Gita's Dream and Rufus Juskus.

This event is being sponsored by the new organization Interspecies Internet, a visionary music & tech group that was recently founded by Peter Gabriel. It's goal is to facilitate communication and music between species.

Sean Johnson and the Wild Lotus Band.
New Orleans mantra musicians Sean Johnson and The Wild Lotus Band (Alvin Young and Gwendolyn Colman) are celebrated as one of the leading voices in western kirtan music, known for their dynamic sound that merges mantras, rock, funk, and world grooves. The band is a favorite headliner at festivals and conferences worldwide and they are the first kirtan band to ever play The New Orleans Jazz Festival. Their music has appeared on Nettwerk/Nutone Records, White Swan Records, Sounds True, and Putumayo World Music. The band tours the U.S. and abroad playing music festivals, yoga studios, retreat centers, concert halls, and celebrations year-round.

Faith Hunter is an inspiring and divine instructor that incorporates her Louisiana upbringing, yoga philosophy and purity of breath to awaken and ignite the spirit of flow in the body and soul.  This international yoga instructor has appeared on the cover of Yoga Journal twice, inside the pages of YJ numerous times and is a cover model and expert contributor for OmYoga and Lifestyle Magazine in the UK. She is also a contributor for Origin Magazine, and has been featured in numerous other magazines and online blogs. As a social advocate, writer, yoga podcaster, inspirational speaker and owner and creator of Embrace Yoga DC (http://www.embracedc.com) her message to the world is "live life to the fullest, embrace life with passion!"

Gaura Vani is a Kirtan musician who strives to bring Kirtan, a genre of spiritual music from India, to the United States. His music 'combines traditional Indian music with western elements such as 12-string guitar, gospel choruses, and hip-hop rhythms'. Gaura Vani moved to Vrindavan, India at age six to study sacred music at a gurukula.  He brought his knowledge back to the United States, where he performs regularly at yoga studios and temples, along with touring to larger venues and festivals, such as Bhakti Fest and Omega Institute.

SuperTrine is a new yoga music group consisting of Kirtan musician Wynne Paris and singer/dancer Lumina Devi. Their sound mixes world-best, electronica and classical influences together in a new way. Performing as a new band, their first single will be available on iTunes on June 25th.

Rimi Basu - Dancer,singer and world beat artist Rimi Basu is best known for her work with the DC based band Kriya. She has studied traditional Indian dance and vocals, as well as hip-hop dance and R&B vocal stylings. Worlds come together when this Diva takes the stage

Gita's Dream and Rufus Juskus are two of the DC area's favorite local kirtan artists. They regularly perform at yoga studios throughout the area and practice Bhakti yoga as their art and devotion.

About the Beneficiaries:
The Bonobo Conservation Initiative (BCI) is a non-profit organization based in Washington, D.C. and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Our mission is to protect bonobos, preserve their tropical rainforest habitat, and empower local communities in the Congo Basin. BCI is the only international organization solely dedicated to protecting wild bonobos and their rainforest habitat. Together with Congolese communities and organizations, the DRC government, and international partners, BCI is implementing innovative solutions to address the complex problem of bonobo conservation.

The Bonobo Hope / Great Ape Trust Sanctuary in Des Moines, Iowa, is dedicated to furthering the conservation, protection and welfare of bonobos worldwide and the development of bonobo/human communication and understanding. In 2011 Time Magazine named Bonobo Hope scientist Dr. Savage Rumbaugh one of 100 Most Influential People in the World for her research into language, cognition, and culture.
