Taste of Ethiopia: A Community Celebration
We're thrilled to invite you to an evening of food and community at Taste of Ethiopia, an intimate cooking class and dinner to benefit the Crossroads Community Food Network's Fresh Checks program. Husband and wife duo Tebabu Assefa and Sara Mussie, owners of the highly acclaimed Blessed Coffee and well-known for their warmth, humor, and delicious cooking, will host the evening. With guidance from Tebabu and Sara, guests will prepare ingredients for a traditional Ethiopian meal, learning recipes, new ingredients, techniques, and stories of Ethiopia's rich cultural culinary history. Guests will then enjoy the fruits of their labor with a large, celebratory dinner.
Since 2007, Crossroads' Fresh Checks program has been providing low-income families with fresh, local produce by matching federal food assistance with dollar-value coupons for use Crossroads Farmers Market. Every dollar exchanged in Fresh Checks directly benefits food insecure households and local farmers. This innovative and successful Fresh Checks program, known generally as "double-dollars," was the first of its kind in the country. Today, over 400 markets nationwide operate with this model.
As we prepare for the our 7th season, Crossroads is committed to our belief that every member of our community should have access to fresh, quality, nourishing food. To actualize that vision, we need your support.
