Protoje & The Indiggnation + Gappy Ranks & The 7th St. Band
Join us as we raise funds and awareness for www.helpjamaica.org along with the Friends of Compound Media Productions with a night of world class reggae music.
There is an exciting resurgence of conscious, organic music in Jamaica as industry experts and observers agree that Protoje is playing an important role in what is becoming known as the Revival. Not only has he been endorsed by the legendary Bob Andy, one of the premier songwriters in Reggae's rich history; also, noted local journalist, Mel Cooke, qualified the artist's impact with the headline, "Protoje speaks for generation next."
Leading the militant band, Indiggnation, this powerful songwriter and philosophical thinker articulates the righteous anger of an emerging generation. Protoje reports for duty, re-establishing the standard for the decaying art of socially responsible, mentally stimulating lyricism.
Of his debut album, The Seven Year Itch, David Rodigan declared in an interview: "I'm particularly impressed with the album which I think is very refreshing." Meanwhile, Reggaeville.com declared it the #3 album of the year 2011.
Now that the proverbial itch has been scratched, Protoje is about to embark on an affair. His second album is called The 8 Year Affair and will be released in 2012. Its first single, 'Who Dem A Program,' is proof enough that the Affair will bring with it an entirely different mental stimulation than the Itch.
Gappy Ranks born and grown Harlesden NW 10. Father Jamaican, Mother Dominican, a good combination like Rice & Peas. Early support and recognition of this rising young talent who had made his studio debut with the Ruff Cutt band aged 11 came from local sound system operators and pirate radio stations and soon led to his link up and studio baptism with Stonebridge stars Suncycle Crew.
The embers were soon burning and the young artist next landed a series of killer link ups with the likes of Kray Twinz, Twista and MC Lethal B. It was his initial hit for the legendary Peckings crew "Mountain Top" that really lit the blue touch paper and when the follow up "Heaven In My Eyes" bus international Gappy found himself in the driver seat of an unstoppable rocket to stardom. "Stinkin Rich" and "Rising Out of the Ghetto" consolidated his success, his impact on the dancehall world mirroring fellow Londoner Amy Winehouses revolutionizing the world R& B scene. In 2011 the release of his eagerly awaited Greensleeves album "Put The Stereo On" ups the ante to another level. The album sees Gappy completing his project with the Peckings Crew, producers of Bitty McLean's classic "On Bond Street" album and like that best selling set "Put the Stereo On" is launched on authorized versions from Studio One, Treasure Isle and Bunny Lee. In 2011, the UK Dancehall returned with his second LP titled "Thanks and Praise". A strong urban record that took over clubs and radio globally
Gappy is also proving to be one of the most popular live draws on the planet, headlining shows across Europe, Asia and the USA. In 2013 look for more from Gappy Ranks including new LP "Shining Hope" with a release date in September 2013.
