Mothers and Sons
Don't Miss Boulevard Theatre 's November 15-25, 2018 reading of acclaimed LGBTQ playwright Terrance McNally's powerful drama MOTHERS AND SONS.
At turns funny and powerful, MOTHERS AND SONS portrays an older widow ("Katherine," played by Joan End) who pays an unexpected visit to the New York apartment of her late son's partner ("Cal," played by Mark Neufang), who is now married to another man ("Will," played by Nathan Marinan).
Cal and Will have a young son ("Bud") together and are enjoying the fruits of the "good life." But generations collide in this stirring drama, as Katherine's unexpected arrival simultaneously questions and then threatens Cal and Will's modern family.
And challenged to face how society has changed around her since the death of Andre, her beloved son and Cal's former lover, Katherine begins to see the life her deceased son ("Andre") might have led with Cal, had it not been for Andre's death from the then-plague of HIV/AIDS. Andre's death - 20 years prior - and the specter of HIV/AIDS, permeate McNally's tale of ultimate loss and ultimate acceptance with an elegiac ennui.
