Canto Hispanico
Canto Hispanico draws together inspired and evocative musical settings by an esteemed international roster of composers: Morten Lauridsen (USA), Alberto Ginastera (Argentina), Einojuhani Rautavaara (Finland), Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco (Italy), and Manuel de Falla (Spain).
Noted Seattle guitarist, Michael Partington, will return to our stage for Romancero Gitano by Castelnuovo-Tedesco. Partington is director of the Guitar Program at the University of Washington. Praised by Classical Guitar Magazine for his "lyricism, intensity and clear technical command," this award-winning British guitarist has performed internationally as a soloist and with ensembles to unanimous critical praise.
A list of the choral works on the program pairs the music with the poetic texts:
Romancero Gitano, Op. 152 Music by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco, Poetry by Federico Garca Lorca
Lamentations of Jeremiah Music by Alberto Ginastera, Text based on the Book of Jeremiah
Soneto de la Noche Music by Morten Lauridsen, Poetry by Pablo Neruda
