The SANTA CRUZ GUITAR ORCHESTRA, directed by guitarist/composer Mesut Özgen, presents the finale concert of the 2012-13 season with an exciting program of music from Baroque to modern, as well as traditional musics from African and Indonesian to Turkish played by a symphony of guitars with wonderful guest musicians: Marc Teicholz, guitar; Doanna Weissgerber, soprano; and Sheila Willey, soprano. The program includes works by J.S. Bach, Carlos Rivera, Villa-Lobos, Bill Kanengiser, Ben Verdery, Mark Wilson, Jordan Brownlee, Sean Hayward, Mark Aitken, as well as the world premiere of Istanbul Espresso for guitar orchestra with soprano, mandolin, electric guitar, and bass by Mesut Özgen. The wonderful guitarist Marc Teicholz joins the SCGO as a soloist in the Bach's Sinfonia arranged for guitar orchestra with solo guitar, mandolin, timpani, and bass from Cantata BWV 29. Also in the program is the beautiful Aria by Villa-Lobos, arranged by Özgen for soprano and guitar orchestra from the Bachianas Brasileiras no. 5.
