Modern Phoenix Superlite Block Plant Tour
Come and find out how concrete block is made and why Superlite made Arizona the concrete block capital of the world in the 1950's post-war boom!
You will be benefitting the Arizona Preservation Foundation by going on this tour, as portion of the proceeds are going to that organization
Taz Loomans will tell us about the role Superlite block played not only in high midcentury modern design, but in everyday, tract home developments and droves of commercial buildings. Phoenix was primarily built on concrete block!
And we will get a tour of the plant and be able to see how block is manufactured today, see how the different shapes - 4", 8", slump block and decorative block are made and how your typical 8"x8"x16" gray concrete block that you see everywhere is made too.
The tour is on April 19, 2013 from 9:30am to 11:00am. Meet at Superlite at 9:00 at the Superlite plant at 4150 W Turney Ave Phoenix, AZ 85019.
Bring your own hard hat.
Tickets at $40 with a portion of the proceeds going to Arizona Preservation Foundation.
