More details...
Artists on the program:
Peter Sparling, Winifred Haun, Lizzie Leopold, Ayako Kato, and Lisa Thurrell.

Program:
New works by Winifred Haun, Ayako Kato and Lizzie Leopold, a new film by Sparling, a new "Lamentation Variation" by Lizzie Leopold and a film of Martha Graham performing her iconic solo from 1930, "Lamentation."

(Lamentation Variation is produced in association with and using the creative structure provided by The Martha Graham Center of Contemporary Dance.  Begun in 2007 as a tribute to the victims of 9/11, the Lamentation Variation Project invites choreographers to create short works inspired by Graham's solo "Lamentation.")

Vision, Faith, & Desire speaks to an ongoing project between Haun and Leopold to situate their respective choreographic voices within the rich historical lineage of modern dance. In the more than 80 years since Lamentation's premiere, it would be nearly impossible to find a dancemaker untouched by Graham's ground-breaking innovations in modernist aesthetics. Vision, Faith & Desire is both a retrospective and a launching pad, a rare opportunity to revisit danced history and simultaneously encounter its present. For both the audience and the artists, this event will work to highlight the ephemeral connectivity of a modern dance family tree.
