Adrianne Greenbaum, Klezmer Flute, in Concert
The original sounds of the wood flute were heard throughout Eastern Europe in the mid-nineteenth century until "louder" instruments such as clarinet and trumpet "edged" this beautiful sound out of the shtetl bands. Seth Rogovoy (author, "The Essential Klezmer: A Music Lover's Guide to Jewish Roots and Soul Music") stated it best: "I can't think of a stronger case being made for the flute as an essential klezmer instrument (besides the historical fact that Old World kapelyes often included flutes) than Adrianne Greenbaum's spirited playing..." Accompanied by Celtic harpist and oboist Shelley Phillips, this is an "East meets West" or "New York meets California" fusion event!
