Compared to What?
Written and directed by Oakland playwright Judith Offer, Compared to What? focuses on the lives of two Pullman porters, Virgil Strother (played by Ben Tucker) and Seamus Gibson (Elisha Butler IV), and a young Pullman-porter wannabe (Camryn Hutchinson), as they struggle with the racism of Pullman management (Pullman Supervisor Archibald Snoddy, played by Michael Fallon)and the urging of local organizer, Heddy Tooker (played by Gloria Anderson) to become part of the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters. Set in the boarding house of Mary Heany (played by Joy Breed) in West Oakland, Compared to What premiered at the Mira Theatre in Vallejo in 2011, where it was nominated for a 2011 Artys Award for Best Original Production.
