Join us on April 12th at Seattle University's Casey Commons to interact with Minister-Counselor Donald Bishop, previously the Country Public Affairs Officer in Beijing, and members of the National Committee on US-China Relations. Bellevue City Mayor Conrad Lee, Sidney Rittenberg, and other members of the National Committee on US-China Relations. The event will be an intense experience unlike any you have attended before. It will focus on the development of shared knowledge in the Pacific Northwest experience of China relations. Our region should begin to look inland, and not just across the Pacific, to begin understanding and sharing the lessons we have learned over many decades.

Two years ago, the U.S. Department of State and the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs came to an historic agreement. Together they support creating a new forum for international communication through state and provincial governors. In the Pacific Northwest, we know this subnational dialogue is not new; Washington, Oregon, and others have participated in it for well over thirty years!
We cannot overstate the value to our region of engaging both countries' national leadership through this new forum. Several other state and provincial delegations have already begun to participate more heavily than the Pacific Northwest, which continues to operate with an internationally engaged "business as usual" perspective. Should this continue? Will our region miss out on an opportunity to lead nationally? Should Pacific Northwest leaders be more active in guiding and shaping national opportunities? What message does the Pacific Northwest have to share in the 21st century US/China relationship?
