THE PLAYS
WE WERE ROOTING FOR YOU created by Garrett Allen
This piece is a meditation on the iconic Tyra tirade at Tiffany from Cycle 4 from America's Next Top Model. It will take this, now meme-ified, moment of reality television and continually ruminate on it, exploring the modern and unnoted realities of how society perceives, creates, and manipulates the voices and relationships of black women.
THE RISE AND FALL OF COUNTESS LUANN DE LESSEPS created by Scott F. Davis
This piece is an inside look at the rise and fall of Countess LuAnn De Lesseps within the world of The Real Housewives of New York City. In this bourgeois world, Countess LuAnn reigns on top. However, when her power is taken away from her via divorce from the Count, a new age dawns of complete debaucherous behavior and mayhem.
BACK TO THE SHORE (A Jersey Short Opera) conceived by Dana Greenfield, Music by Tj Rubin, Book and Lyrics by Nina Kauffman
In 2007, MTV almost produced a reality TV program about young people running for political office. It was set to be the defining show of the network and a huge success. Instead, they made The Jersey Shore. Set in the dystopian future, BACK TO THE SHORE reflects on this event through the medium the Jersey Shore was meant to be told: Opera. Did the Situation cause the situation we are in now?
