Daniel Kahn & the Painted Bird with Conspiracy of Beards
It's a night of cutting-edge Jewish music when the Berlin-based Daniel Kahn & the Painted Bird host a release party for their new CD, "Bad Old Songs." Conspiracy of Beards, a 30-man Bay Area a cappella choir that exclusively performs songs by Leonard Cohen, opens the show, a 28th Jewish Music Festival-related event. The Painted Bird has brought its "Yiddish Punk Cabaret" to rock clubs, theatres, and festivals around the world. The band, led by singer/songwriter/accordionist Kahn, mixes klezmer, radical Yiddish song, political cabaret and punk folk. Kahn has been described as "someone between Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan and Tom Waits - but Yiddish."
Speaking of Leonard Cohen, Conspiracy of Beards has sung its original arrangements of the Canadian singer/songwriter's work for dozens of Bay Area audiences and on local television and radio.
