Gorge Small Business Emergency Preparedness Workshop
It's never too soon, but it can be too late to be ready and aware of emergencies that may affect our rural communities and small businesses. Fire, earthquakes, floods, volcanic eruptions, ice storms and more do happen here in the Gorge. Computer systems can be hacked, meaning your files and contacts will be compromised. Electrical power can go down anytime and be out for a long time. The 2016 train derailment in Mosier, Oregon showed how vulnerable our transportation system is to traffic bottlenecks and how critical our bridges are. Long-term road closures and dense smoke stemming from the Eagle Creek Fire in 2017 negatively affected the bottom line of many local companies. Make plans now for May 15th to join Community Enrichment of Klickitat and Skamania County (CEKC), Skamania County EDC, Skamania County Chamber of Commerce and the Skamania Klickitat Community Network at the first Gorge Rural Business Emergency Preparedness workshop. Tristan Allen, Program Manager with the Washington State Emergency Management Division will lead the training. The workshop will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Lunch will be provided for attendees. Representatives from SCORE (Service Corps of Retired Executives) will also have information and resources available. More sponsors are signing on, so stay tuned for updates!
