Haus Orpheus Presents: Heavy Color
Yes yes ya'll! Haus Orpheus is BACK--and we're doing it BIG! Check it out:
FIRST OFF, we're SO stoked to be bringing our friends HEAVY COLOR over the border from Toledo, Ohio! Why we love them: In May of 2015 Ben (synths/guitar) travelled to the Democratic Republic of Congo to collaborate with local musicians in support of the NDARO Cultural Center (a safe center for youth to learn music, dance and art) and On the Ground (an NGO focusing on gender equity and sustainable community development in farming regions around the globe).
The result of this transnational collaboration is an epic future beat / psych jazz / electronic mashup that combines soulful electronic haziness with the organic textures of African and Latin percussion-centric music. And there will be DOPE visuals. Take our word for it--you HAVE to see & hear it for yourselves!
SECONDLY, the John Orpheus crew is back to give their first Toronto performance since October! Missed Carnival this year? No worries-ya'll know your favorite Pan-African hip-hop crew will have the Carnival vibes blasting in full effect, per usual! SOWEDOIT.
THIRD, we've got Brampton's very own Durreyl Parke-Hinds hitting the stage with her amazing dancers to start off the night!. Having already worked alongside Drake & Rhianna, you better get this rising star on your radar quick, because she's about to blow up!
FINALLY, to blast the end of our evening into overdrive, our girl Sarah Jane Riegler will be pulling a double duty and DJing a special afrohouse/dancehall/afrobeats set. I dunno if ya'll have caught her at one of our Friday night AFRO HAUS jams yet, but this gyal has been known to get the room sweating down through their socks!
