Patricia Lee"Patti"Smith(born December 30, 1946)[1]is an Americansinger-songwriter, poet, writer,andvisual artist, who became a highly influential component of the New York Citypunk rockmovement with her 1975 debut albumHorses.[2]After working on a factory assembly line, she began performing spoken word and later formed the Patti Smith Group (1974-1979). Her most famous album is Horses, followed byRadio Ethiopia, Easter, and Wave, Dream of Life, Gone Again, Peace and Noise, Gung Ho, Trampin, Land, Twelve. Her most current album is Banga. A Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Patti Smith and her band continue to tour worldwide as well as lend support for human right issues.
In 2010, she won the National Book Award for her memoir Just Kidswhich chronicled her friendship and journey in art with photographer Robert Mapplethorpe. Her other books include Witt, Babel, Coral Sea, Woolgathering, and Auguries of Innocence. Patti Smith's art has been exhibited at galleries and museums worldwide. Represented by the Robert Miller Gallery in New York since 1978, her exhibitions include Strange Messenger, Land 250, and Camera Solo. _________________________________________________________________________________________
