Richie Williams: "A Holiday Soiree"
"A Holiday Soiree" is a joyful and spirited celebration where you'll look around and feel the warmth and charm of great songs, hilarious patter and a community whose crazy glue, is just simply, the rapture of music. In fact, this show may be so transcendent that It will seem at times, like you along with the audience are being transported to Polaris!
Richie Williams, along with Takaaki Otomo, Piano and Iris Ornig, Bass, are mainstays, of the New York Jazz scene and to get the party rolling, Richie invites special guests, Sachiko Tatsuishi, Susan Mac and Steven Zinnato, aka Dr. Z, all toe tapping, high energy and extremely talented Songsters. Along with all the toe tapping, Richie also invites one of Pangea's own sweethearts, Debbie Auer, to perform with him, a soul- searching Christmas ballad that force us all to remember what the spirit of Christmas truly is. A beauty!
Richie Williams, returns to Pangea after a sold-out show in June. As a Poet, Singer and Jazz Historian, Richie seems to carry the entire American Songbook in his hip pocket and is often referred to as The downtown Bobby Short. Richie's voice and style echo the mellow tones of both Nat and his brother Freddie Cole. This, coupled with his charismatic charm, funny-bone good humor and off the cuff style, often serve up a fun filled and edgy performance that leaves The Song Book Smiling! Richie has performed at numerous venues beginning his career at Barry Harris', legendary Jazz Culture Theatre. He has also performed at many venues in Manhattan including, The Triad, Don't Tell Mama and St. Peters (The Jazz Church). He is a mainstay in the Big Apples thriving jazz cabaret scene including, Thalia's, Zeb's, Kitano's, and Cobi Narita's Jazz Forum.
In A Holiday Soiree, Richie along with this talented cast of characters, take the audience to that romantic and inspirited place where light itself lifts us up from the mundane to the transcendent feeling of love and hope. With Pangea's candlelit room and a tinkling piano, the night promises to revisit the heyday of the Café Society era, when some of the most beautiful songs in the canon were written and where elegance was the hush hush calling card to its entree.

Downtown's intimate supper-club Pangea is the ultimate in alt, playing home to some of the best in alt cabaret. The New York Times recently called it a bohemian oasis not unlike the fabled Max's Kansas City from days gone by."
