Real Vocal String Quartet & True Life Trio
Real Vocal String Quartet began with violinist Irene Sazer's inspiration to combine her musical passions: chamber music, improvising, composing, and singing. With violinist Alisa Rose, violist Dina Maccabee, and cellist Jessica Ivry, Sazer's vision sparked the creation of a truly collaborative ensemble that freely mixes and ultimately transcends genres.
This knock-out Bay Area string quartet, string band, woman's vocal quartet and jaw-dropping improvising world-music collective takes on Regina Spektor and other Jewish music.
The Quartet's surprisingly broad repertoire embraces the diverse influences of all four players, from classical, jazz, and rock, to songs and styles from West Africa, Brazil, and rural America. Yet while four distinct voices can be heard, in seven years of performing together, the Quartet has achieved a true group sound.
True Life Trio weaves sumptuous vocal harmonies and sultry rhythms from Eastern Europe, the Americas & beyond. This innovative trio explores the creative possibilities of cross-fertilization of different traditions with unlikely timbres connecting Bulgaria to the Bayou. Featuring the powerful vocal talents of three dynamic performers whose musical collaboration was forged in Kitka Women's Vocal Ensemble, the trio delves deep into a vast array of folk music that lends itself to three-part vocal harmony, massaging and expanding the boundaries of these traditional styles. The result is a sweet, sonic explosion that is here turned for the first time to original arrangements of Jewish music.
True Life Trio is: Leslie Bonnett: voice, fiddle, percussion Briget Boyle: voice, guitar, percussion Juliana Graffagna: voice, bass, percussion
