Hollywood Party: Movie Songs 1928-1936 with Jeff Macauley
Its been 90 years since Al Jolson first warned us that "You ain't heard nothin' yet!", bursting into song in "The Jazz Singer", and giving birth to the movie musical. Over the next few years, this new genre found its voice and gave us some unusual and timeless music and stars. The film musicals nascent charm, as Janet Gaynors performance in 1929s Sunny Side Up showed us, would reach an unmatched peak of sophisticated artistry just seven years later with Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers in Swing Time. Hollywood Party revisits the songs that were written for these and other performers, including beloved standards and long-forgotten tunes from songwriters De Sylva, Brown, & Henderson, Jerome Kern, Dorothy Fields, Herb Nacio Brown, Richard Rodgers, Lorenz Hart, Richard Whiting and others writing for Jeanette MacDonald, Maurice Chevalier, Claudette Colbert, and Bing Crosby at the beginning of their legendary film careers.
Jeff Macauley has been singing in cabarets from Los Angeles to New York since 1990. Jeff was nominated for a 2016 and 2015 MAC Award for Male Vocalist and has been nominated for several BroadwayWorld.com cabaret awards for his shows "It Was Me: The Lyrics of Norman Gimbel" "Mr. Lucky: The Songs of Henry Mancini", and "Le Grand Tour: The Music of Michel Legrand". In 1998, Jeff received Backstage Magazines Bistro Award for Outstanding Theme Show for "MWAH! The Dinah Shore Show" which was succesfully revived in 2016 in honor of Miss Shores centenary. "It Was Me: The Lyrics of Norman Gimbel", is also available as a studio recording at cdbaby.com and through iTunes and Amazon.

Downtown's intimate supper-club Pangea is the ultimate in alt, playing home to some of the best in alt cabaret. The New York Times recently called it a bohemian oasis not unlike the fabled Max's Kansas City from days gone by."
