Silent Sky by Lauren Gunderson
SILENT SKY by Lauren Gunderson is the story of Henrietta Leavitt, a brilliant 20th century woman who wangled her way into Harvard's astronomy department at a time when women were often barred from many fields of study. She developed a way to use the stars' brightness to gauge their distance from one another, which was the breakthrough needed to develop a standard used by astronomers all over the world. Gunderson transposes this story into a work of pure poetry that examines the life of an extraordinary woman. Great, inspirational entertainment for all ages.
