INTO THE WOODS
ABOUT THE SHOW: YOUTH MUSICAL THEATER COMPANY presents its summer production of Stephen Sondheim's INTO THE WOODS. At first glance, this is a lovely, humorous frolic into a world of familiar fairy tales where Cinderella, Jack (of Beanstalk fame), Rapunzel and Little Red Ridding Hood set out on like adventures to find "happily ever after". But Sondheim's intricate and haunting music turns this world on its end. We find that, in the woods, wishes aren't simple, that all of us are fallible, and that often, growing up means coming to terms with our deepest fears. A humorous and poignant story set to some of Sondheim's most gorgeous and powerful music. Suitable for ages 8 and up.
ABOUT THE PRODUCTION: A stellar cast of some of the Bay Areas brightest young talent bring this full script production to life at the Julia Morgan Center for the Arts in Berkeley. Known for its professional quality productions, beautifully designed and crafted sets, costumes, props, and full orchestra sound, YMTC showcases talented teens, many of whom go on to some of the best college theater programs in the country. Come see these kids before they hit the big time!
ABOUT YMTC: Based in Berkeley, CA, Youth Musical Theater Company is dedicated to training the next generation of theater artists and engaged citizens by creating an exceptional theater experience for performers and audiences alike. For over ten years, YMTC has been providing talented, passionate young people with the opportunity to study and perform under the guidance of professional musicians and theater artists. Past productions include Man of La Mancha (Fall 2008), Cabaret (Summer 2007), Sweeney Todd (Fall 2006) and Jesus Christ Superstar (Spring 2006). YMTC also offers musical theater training workshops for middle and high school students, including its Pocket Broadway Workshop from January through March, Summer Workshops in August, and Weekend Intensives for advanced students.
