Alicia Waller at Pangea
Join soprano Alicia Waller as she investigates the range of the classical voice in an exploration of globally focused repertoire intended to push the limits of the art song cannon. Ms. Wallers unique music and vocal style presents an uncanny fusion between the classical voice alongside soul, jazz, and world music. She is joined by Jeff McLaughlin (guitar), Marcos Varela (bass), and Wilson Torres (percussion). Noting her experience in classical and operatic performance as a catalyst, Ms. Waller became inspired to "see if it were possible to push a global feeling" out to audiences with a music that would reach beyond the concert hall. By initiating a vocal style that at once celebrates the classically trained voice while exploring unusual applications of it, she hopes to enact a multilevel diplomacy - one that provokes a consciousness around globalism as well as it toes the line between traditionally disparate genres and audiences.

Downtown's intimate supper-club Pangea is the ultimate in alt, playing home to some of the best in alt cabaret. The New York Times recently called it a bohemian oasis not unlike the fabled Max's Kansas City from days gone by."
