NJProghouse Presents: Discipline/Galactic Cowboy Orchestra
Discipline
http://www.strungoutrecords.com/

"Discipline weaves a wicked web of lush, whimsical melodies, cynical stories and melancholy theatricsso disturbing some fans have pegged lead-man Matthew Parmenter as 'unstable,'" writes Heidi Olmac in Detroit's Orbit newspaper. New Zealand rock critic Kev Rowland describes Discipline as "one of the most important bands to come out of America in the last 25 years." The American band Discipline has performed and recorded together since 1987. The band has just finished recording its fifth studio album with current members Paul Dzendzel (drums), Mathew Kennedy (bass guitar), Chris Herin (lead guitar), and Matthew Parmenter (vocals and keyboards).

The new Discipline album entitled "Captives of the Wine Dark Sea" will be released on the U.S. label Laser's Edge. "We are thrilled to welcome Discipline into the Laser's Edge family," says Ken Golden, owner and CEO of Laser's Edge records. "It was a long time coming, but the new Discipline album has definitely been worth the wait. This album demonstrates once again why Discipline is considered one of the finest U.S. bands." Influences abound on the new release, which singer Matthew Parmenter describes as "an escape to ameliorate the workaday world." Veteran music producer Terry Brown (Rush, Fate's Warning) has mixed the new Discipline release. "Captives of the Wine Dark Sea" is scheduled for worldwide release in May 2017. Discipline's earliest live shows were memorable for unusual theatrics. Parmenter (a.k.a. the Magic Acid Mime) would wear different costumes and act out the songs. Though the costumes have long since gone away, spontaneity remains a hallmark of Discipline's stage presence. "I think most of it comes from playing live," says Parmenter in The Observer and Eccentric newspaper. "If something goes wrong, it's kind of interesting how you will get out of it."

Discipline has appeared at numerous progressive rock festivals. In 2017 the band will perform at Italy's 2Days Prog+1 festival September 2 and at Chicago's Progtoberfest in October. The band drew praise at UK's Summers End festival in 2015 with reviews declaring Discipline "the band of the weekend." In 2012 Discipline appeared at RoSfest, the Rites of Spring progressive rock festival in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. That performance can be viewed as an Amazon Instant video. In 2008 Discipline performed at NEARfest Northeast Art Rock Festival. Other festival appearances include Terra Incognita (Quebec Canada), ProgScape, Orion Studios(Baltimore, Maryland), and six separate performances at ProgDay (Chapel Hill, North Carolina).

Jeff Milo of Ferndale Friends newspaper writes, "Go online and you'll find various zines, blogs, and sites devoted to 'prog' music sending some substantial love toward Detroit's Discipline."

The Galactic Cowboy Orchestra
http://www.galacticcowboyorchestra.com

The Galactic Cowboy Orchestra  has been freakin' minds for 6 years! Since 2009, the band has stretched their own musical limits with album after album of intensely energetic ART-ROCK. Definition of ART-ROCK: A type of rock music, often with poetic lyrics, characterized by sophisticated harmonic, dynamic and technical complexity based on forms derived from classical (and jazz) music and requiring performers of considerable training and skill. It sounds so serious, but when you combine that type of music with four fun-loving musicians who don't take themselves too seriously and who have a love of so much music beyond art-rock (which is why the band covers songs from Otis Rush's All Your Love to Whipping Post to When the Levee Breaks to YYZ), you get a bit of magic in live music form. The band writes and performs music that excites them and has a blast doing it! The GCO appreciates and aspires to superior musicianship while combining their love of a good riff, hummable melody and groovy jam... over a jazz/jazz-rock musical bedrock. It all culminates in an intensely energetic live performance because "we freakin' love what we do and love that the fans dig it too!! "

What other bands do we sound like? We have been compared to King Crimson, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Dixie Dregs, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones.
