Come experience an authentic "Gold Rush" meal, cooked over open fires, served along a row of locally crafted farm tables. Sip wine while staring in awe of the history still standing at the Knight Foundry in old town Sutter Creek. Dance the night away to Americana band, the Pine Street Ramblers. The dinner benefits the Knight Foundry's restoration efforts, as the Foundry has been named by the National Trust for Historic Preservation as one of Americas eleven most endangered historic places.
The Knight Foundry, set in the heart of Sutter Creek, is America's last water-powered foundry and machine shop. Established in 1873 by Samuel Knight, this extraordinary facility includes the unique historic equipment and machinery, still in place in its original context, just as it was during its gold rush-era heyday. Imagine eating dinner in the street between these incredible buildings.
The dinner is part of Sutter Creek's Heritage Days, a weekend celebrating our town's unique history where you can stroll through our past and enjoy our present. (Free admission to Heritage Days.) Your host for the dinner is Wine on 49, the collaboration of nine boutique tasting rooms in the charming Gold Rush town of Sutter Creek.
The five course meal is inspired by the cuisine of the Gold Rush days, focusing on the provisions available at that time, and foraged locally now. After appetizers in the 'saloon', we'll sit down outside to three courses served family style. Botanical greens with local chevre and grilled figs, followed by wild salmon and coal roasted veggies, then on to wood oven roasted leg of lamb and open 'fired' chickens, along with greens and potatoes. Each course will be paired to the wines of Wine on 49 by our local sommelier. Local pies and ice cream will be provided later to keep your dancing shoes tapping.
Ticket price includes dinner and dancing, and a Wine on 49 tasting certificate for all nine boutique tasting rooms in charming Sutter Creek on Sunday, September 24th. Most importantly, in homage to the 49ers, all proceeds will go directly to the Knights Foundry.
