A Steady Rain by Keith Huff
This Fall; come on down to The Havana Theater on Commercial Drive, to witness a spectacular night of theater at it's finest. Watch Vancouver heavy weights Artin John (Death Note, The X Files), and James W. Challis (ABC's When We Rise), go head-to-head as they tackle this mammoth of a two-man play, written by Mad Men's Keith Huff, and directed by Christiaan Westerveld (CW's The Flash, BBC America's Dirk Gently). John and Challis will be ambitiously reprising the Hugh Jackman/Daniel Craig roles of Joey and Denny, which were so masterfully portrayed on Broadway by the two A-listers. With the casting being so perfect, the story so well written, the direction so expertly executed, and with the extraordinary level of craftsmanship that both John and Challis always deliver, this show is sure to be an event that you won't want to miss.
With a plot similar to a real-life event involving Jeffrey Dahmer, it focuses on two childhood friends turned 1990's Chicago policemen who inadvertently return a Vietnamese boy to a cannibalistic serial killer who claims to be the child's uncle.
A dark duologue filled with sharp storytelling and biting repartee, A Steady Rain explores the complexities of a lifelong bond tainted by domestic affairs, violence, and the rough streets of Chicago. Joey and Denny have been best friends since kindergarten, and after working together for several years as policemen in Chicago, they are practically family: Joey helps out with Denny's wife and kids; Denny keeps Joey away from the bottle. But when a domestic disturbance call takes a turn for the worse, their friendship is put on the line. The result is a harrowing journey into a moral gray area where trust and loyalty struggle for survival against a sobering backdrop of pimps, prostitutes, and criminal lowlifes.
The Havana theater is brilliant venue, with an awesome bar/restaurant. The run of the play takes place from September 26th-30th @8pm.
