A little of this, that and most definitely the other; comedy meets tragedy from the stars to the gutter. Native New Yorker Rachelle Garniez wanders through genres, creating a universe of bittersweet wreckage.
Multi-instrumentalist , songwriter and vocalist, she is known as "A certified free spirit" -The New Yorker, a "Diva with a difference" - Billboard Magazine and a "Master of surprise" - Entertainment Weekly. Her story-songs and stream of consciousness performances have been described as "... romantic, rhapsodic and casually hilarious." The New York Times.
NYC native Rachelle Garniez made her way to the stage via the performance art club scene and busking on the streets and subway platforms in the 1980's, playing all kinds of music. In addition to gigs in NYC and environs, she tours regularly in Europe and in the past year, Malaysia, Thailand and Israel. Rachelle composed the music for Taylor Mac's Obie Award winning The Lily's Revenge. She has worked with neo-cabaret troupe The Citizens Band as a musical director as well as a performer. She's performed in Weimar New York, collaborations with Sxip Shirey and choreographer Keely Garfield.
