Colm and Kelly Gannon with special Guests; The Coyne Family with Bridget Fitzgerald
Colm Gannon born and reared right here in Boston town, Dorchester to be specific. His father John, and his brother Sean before him, a house and a community full of Irish music tracing itself back to old Connemara and the rich community its emigrants formed for Boston, became a platform for Colm to hone his skills and become one of the most respected trad accordion players today.
Colm often thought about returning to Ireland and when he did eventually, he courted and soon married Kelly Geraghty an accomplished concertina player and the rest as they say, is history. But its a history still very much in the making. They are now a husband/wife duo making terrific music together.
Also on this evening, the beloved Coyne Family, Melrose residents John (originally from Limerick) and Lisa, and their amazingly talented daughter Josie, will open the concert. They will be joined by another great Coyne (her maiden name!) better known here as Bridget Fitzgerald, a terrific sean-nos style singer.
So a great night of music and song from Connemara and way beyond, and knowing these deep Boston connections, you never know who will show up! Get tickets in advance because this concert will sell out quickly.
The Burren Backroom series is just over a year old but has created already many memorable, intimate, informal presentations held in a truly atmospheric space which was created by well-known traditional musicians Tommy and Louise McCarthy in Davis Square, Somerville, Masachusetts.
Hosted by Brian O'Donovan of A Celtic Sojourn on WGBH radio, these gatherings feature core performers from many aspects of traditional music as well as special guests, and conversations around the music. As is the custom of the Burren, it is anticipated informal and dynamic post concert sessions will be a feature.
Tickets are $23 in advance, with a $5 discount for WGBH Members. If you are a member, send an e-mail to celtic@wgbh.org and we will send you the code.
Seating is VERY limited and these events have been selling out, so get your tickets today!
