Erotic Writing As Resistance!
In times of terror, sexuality and desire can seem frivolous. At these times, it can feel safer to close rather than to open. Audre Lorde warned us of the dangers of "fear[ing] the yes within ourselves." When we claim our messy, gorgeous erotic selves, we are more able to recognize joy in our lives, connect to community, and are less likely to fall prey to the politics of fear and division. In this workshop with Jen Cross we'll write fantasy and longing, body and hope, and co-create space in which to celebrate the power of desire in resisting cynicism and despair. This is a space for folks of all genders and all orientations, single or partnered, and open to folks of all writing abilities! Just bring your favorite notebook and writing implement, and your most open mind. A widely-anthologized erotica writer and co-editor (with Dr. Carol Queen and Amy Butcher), of the award-winning Sex Still Spoken Here: An Erotic Reading Circle Anthology, Jen Cross has also been facilitating erotic writing workshops for 15 years. Her first single-author book, Writing Ourselves Whole: Using the Power of your Own Creativity to Heal and Recover from Sexual Violence, is forthcoming from Mango Media this summer. www.writingourselveswhole.org
