The Seventh Story Experience: 27 Hours in a New World
Date & Time:
Friday October 13th, 7-10pm Saturday October 14th, 10am-10pm
Description:
We all need peace and security, so it's no surprise that human beings have developed stories in response to this need. We think there are six primary stories that are used this way: domination, violent revolution, purification, isolation, victimization, and accumulation. These stories do not work. Instead, they drive us apart, create more suffering, and fail to answer the question of how to make a better world. The sun is setting on our old stories.
But there is a Seventh Story, misunderstood and hidden, but available to everyone. A story that upends what we think we know about religion, politics, economics, art, and even storytelling itself.
Brian McLaren and Gareth Higgins have been thinking and talking for many years about how to tell better stories to make a better world. Now they want to invite you a brand new experience: the first public event exploring, experimenting with, and embodying the idea of the Seventh Story.
It's a conversation about a different way of living that could change the way you see yourself.
It's an exploration of how humans relate to each other that could end war.
It's an inner journey that could transform how we experience meaning and love, and turn our contemporary anxiety into a thrilling hope for our own participation in making a better world.
It's 27 hours near Los Angeles, at the end of October 2017, with up to 250 people talking, listening, working, playing, and celebrating together. A new community imagining a new story. (There'll be an open air ritual with a fire too, but we'll tell you more about that later.)
Hearing the Seventh Story changes your mind. Living it will change your life.
Will you join us?
THE SMALL PRINT: In an effort of nurturing conversation, this event is open to the first 250 people to register only. The venue is only a short distance from many inexpensively priced food options, free parking is available, and reasonably priced hotels are nearby. We begin after dinner at 7pm on Friday, ending around 10pm; and the event continues on Saturday from 10am to around 10pm, with breaks for lunch and dinner. Brian and Gareth will be co-facilitating, but this is an interactive event, so there will be ample opportunity for individual and group participation.
Registration costs $179 per person, but in the spirit of the Seventh Story we are asking only for a $49 deposit to reserve your spot. We will invite a further pledge at the event itself, asking all attendees to pay more or less depending on the resources you have available, and the benefit you feel you received from the event.
