Erica Roozendaal: New Music for Accordion
On Saturday June 24, Open Space, in collaboration with the Vancouver InterCultural Orchestra (VICO), welcomes accordionist Erica Roozendaal. Joining us here from the Netherlands, Erica will perform a concert featuring music written by composers from Canada and Scandinavia. Joining Erica on the concert will be Vancouverite Mark McGregor, accompanying her on flute. The concerts will feature compositions by Juliet Kiri Palmer, Erkki Jokinen and Bent Sørensen and include a world premiere by Farshid Samandari.
It is always fantastic collaborating with VICO. They bring world class artists to the West Coast who work to find intersections between music from their country and Canadian music. Ericas concert will be no exception, says Christopher Reiche Boucher, Open Spaces New Music Curator. She will perform music from Canada and Scandinavia as well as showcasing what the accordion is capable of in a contemporary context.
The concert will be taking place at James Bay United Church at 511 Michigan Street. While in Victoria, Erica will also be workshopping pieces by local composers at the University of Victoria on Sunday June 25, starting at 10:30 am. For more information, or to submit your own piece (deadline June 13) check out www.openspace.ca.
