MORE ABOUT THE ACTS FOR 12.12.12
COUNTRY MUSIC STARS Old Country music stars never die, they just fade away Since they got their start in Nashville decades ago, Jesse and Ryan have seen it all -and played every honkytonk, VFW hall, and dive bar across the U.S. of A. Sit back and listen as they share stories from a life on the road -- and the songs that made them famous. PERFORMERS: Ryan Schutt and Jesse Young
DIAL M FOR NASTY Three men. One scene. It's Dial M for Nasty. Dial M for Nasty made it to the Elite 8 out of 50 teams in the Washington Improv Theater's improv tournament in 2011. PERFORMERS: David Johnson, Rich Nyman, and Joe Uchno
GHOSTS OF SWEATY'S PAST Boooo! Hot & Sweaty cried when they left. Hot & Sweaty's fond memories of them still haunt them. They may be gone, but they're returning for the holiday. Will they have words of wisdom? Will they be friendly? Will they show you the past, present and future? Whatever they do, there's one thing for sure -- they're still very sweaty, even as departed members. PERFORMERS: Former Hot & Sweaty members
HOT & SWEATY That ever-loveable, ever-Sweaty long-form improv troupe, Hot & Sweaty, closes both shows with an improvised holiday horror movie. Horror movies should be year-round, but especially during the holidays. After all, how many people do you wish would just die during the holiday season? Scream with delight as you watch this completely improvised holiday horror movie. So funny it's scary -- it's Hot & Sweaty's holiday horror movie! Bring your own popcorn. And your friend. You don't want to leave the theater alone PERFORMERS: Michael Bales, Jigs Baxi, Isabel Galbraith, Ami Krasner, Nancy Safavi, Nikki Stowers
LAWYER V. LAWYER It's DC, a city filled with lawyers, so of course, the holidays in DC wouldn't be complete without a trial of some sort. Every single member of this act is an attorney, and together they will perform an improvised trial for you based on your suggestion. Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, you not only get to make up the reason for the trial, you get to decide its outcome. PERFORMERS: Sabahat Chaudhary, Juliet Mazer-Schmidt, Nancy Safavi, Kate Symes and Matt Winterhalter
MIKAEL JOHNSON That's it. MIKAEL JOHNSON.
NIKKI STOWERS Well, she's Hot & Sweaty's very merry and gifted Sweaty. If you haven't seen her do stand up, you really, really should.
RED HOT PEN Red Hot Pen is a DC-based comedy sketch group. Sharp, poignant and sometimes fashionable, the creative minds of three women combine to show you that the pen is mightier than Chanel. WRITERS: Anne Marie DiNardo, Nancy Safavi and Nikki Stowers PERFORMERS: Michael Bales, Erica Johnson, and Melissa Thomson
THE SCORE The Score brings your music collection to life! A random audience member's mp3 player provides the score for this improvised show. The Score will show you what your music really looks like, played out on stage. Not even an iPod can do that. PERFORMERS: Pete Bergen, Michael Bird, Emily McFarland, Kate Symes, and Joe Uchno
THERMAL RUNAWAY The holidays are filled with characters and with Thermal RunAway you'll enter a world filled with characters you didn't know you could love, hate or want to be. Thermal RunAway performs long-form improv that generates giggles, laughs and guffaws that increases the temperature for audiences. Basically, you'll giggle, then laugh, then laugh some more, then guffaw, then eventually explode from that Thermal RunAway-induced laugh energy, that made you so hot and made you laugh so hard that you peed in your pants. Seriously, you don't need to see a flow chart to understand this scientific process. You'll just feel it. PERFORMERS: Michael Bales, Megan Burt, Abby Fu, Jake Hill, Nancy Safavi, and Andrew Williams
TOM ACHILLES Tom was a semi-finalist in the 2009 Philly's Phunniest Comedian Contest and a finalist in the 2010 DC Improv's Funniest College Student Contest.
