Sleeping Ugly

Synopsis of Play: Sleeping Beauty wakes up in a new world where warts are in vogue and quickly discovers that she has contracted these horrible things. She meets three other school girls who ridicule her for being ugly. Sleeping Ugly, as she has renamed herself, flees this town and bumps into the Ugly Duckling. The Ugly Duckling, like Sleeping Beauty, is the subject of bullying for his appearance. The two become fast friends. Meanwhile, in the background, Malificent is lurking and still obsessed with being the prettiest of them all. Malificent believes that getting Sleeping Uglies warts holds the answer to her problem as having warts is socially acceptable. She strikes a deal with Sleeping Ugly to steal her warts. As part of the deal the Ugly Duckling will get to become a beautiful swan. Malificent casts a spell and each character gets exactly what they want, or do they? Much to their alarm, they are still the subject of ridicule, which forces them to search inward for their beauty. Perhaps qualities such as friendship, loyalty and kindness are what true beauty is all about.
