Return to Lala Land is the creative nonfiction tale of a highly successful musician/songwriter/performer struggling to tear down borders and construct boundaries between her present day artistry and a golden past that threatens to crush her under its glittery weight.
Burning up the Billboard Charts with four top-five songs in two years, Lala's explosive songwriting talent helped launch several careers, most notably, Whitney Houston's. The fiery"YOU GIVE GOOD LOVE"earned LaForrest Cope (a.k.a. LaLa), aGrammy Award nomination for Best R&B Song and anASCAP Honors Award for Most Played Songs in the 1985 Survey Year (an award she shared with Prince), whilegiving Whitney her first #1 single. Lala toured as a backup singer and keyboard player on Michael Jacksons Victory Tour. She has played, sang, written for and/or produced artists as diverse as Ice Cube,Lauryn Hill,Christina Aguilera,Luther VandrossMelba Moore,Freddie Jackson,Stephanie Mills,Johnny Gill and Burt Bacharach. Ms. Cope recorded a vocal duet with Jermaine Jacksonfor theSummer Olympics Album onAristaRecordsand executive produced by Clive Davis. Her second solo album,Lala Means I Love You, was released onMotownRecords.
