AUGUST 19 & 20 | OLYMPIC CHAMBER MUSIC FELLOWS WEEK II
AUGUST 19 - FROM BEETHOVEN
BEETHOVEN Piano Quartet in E-flat major, Op. 16 SCHOENBERG Verklärte Nacht, Op. 4 (1899) SCHUMANN Piano Quintet in E-flat major, Op. 44
Beethovens towering influence over younger generations is clearly audible in the music of Schumann and Schoenberg - two composers who were central to the beginning and end of the romantic era. At the heart of the program is Schoenbergs Verklärte Nacht or Transfigured Night for string sextet, one of the most passionate and awe-inspiring works of the entire chamber music literature.
AUGUST 20 - TWILIGHT IN PARIS
POULENC Violin Sonata (1943) DEBUSSY String Quartet in G minor, Op. 10 RAVEL Ma Mere LOye (Mother Goose) for Piano Four Hands (1910) FAURÉ Piano Quartet No. 1 in C minor, Op. 15
From La Belle Époque until World War II, the city of light underwent a creative renaissance where French composers challenged the limits of romanticism while exploring what would become musical impressionism. Explore the intoxicating palette of harmonies used by Ravel and Debussy, Poulencs satirical flamboyance, and Faurés gorgeous tapestry of late romanticism at the Olympic Chamber Music Fellowships final concert.
