Nacha Mendez performs: Love Letter to Frida
The Mesa Prieta Petroglyph Project (MPPP) is pleased to announce our 2017 summer fundraiser, Nacha Mendez performs: Love Letter to Frida. Please join us at the Scottish Rite Masonic Center in Santa Fe on Sunday, July 23, 2017, beginning at 5:00pm for hors doeuvres, a silent auction, and the premiere performance of new material by beloved Santa Fean, Nacha Mendez.
Accompanied by cellist Chase Morrison and violinist Carla Kountoupes, Nacha Mendez will perform a music and spoken word homage to Frida Kahlo. Fifteen letters were commissioned from around the world after Nacha embarked on a creative journey to discover why the singer Chavela Vargas would burn all the letters Frida Kahlo had sent to her. What volatile emotion drives someone to sever ties, get rid of any evidence of a relationship, and yet still call it love?
For this performance, Nacha tells us she followed her imagination and inspiration. Through the voices of fifteen contributors we learn what might be said in love. We may never know the content of Fridas letters to Chavela, but we do know a project was born from them, Nacha Mendez performs: Love Letter to Frida.
MPPP is excited to invite you for what promises to be a unique evening in Santa Fe the weekend before Spanish Market. Our silent auction will feature carefully curated items including travel and art. Complimentary hors doeuvres will be served and a cash bar will be available before the performance. Nacha will remain after the performance to greet her fans.
