Mendelssohn in the Morning
Our 2017 festival kicks off with inspiring music in beautiful spaces. The two morning performances at Dunbar Ryerson United Church and Christ Church Cathedral will feature the Attacca Quartet in Mendelssohns youthful and passionately romantic work, his String Quartet No.2. Having just received glowing reviews in New York and Washington for their interpretation of Mendelssohn, the Attacca are enjoying a quickly growing career. The morning concerts will also include a collaboration with violinist Benjamin Bowman, concertmaster of the American Ballet Theatre in New York, and pianist Jamie Parker in a performance of Beethovens exquisite Sonata No. 5, or Spring as it was later called.
Program: Mendelssohn - String Quartet No. 2 in A Minor, Opus 13
Beethoven - Sonata No. 5 in F major for Violin and Piano
With the Attacca Quartet, Benjamin Bowman, violin; Barry Shiffman, viola; Jamie Parker, piano
Attacca Quartet "They may be a relatively young ensemble, but already they come very close to epitomizing the string quartet ideal: four strikingly individual players with the ability to speak eloquently in one voice." -- The Washington Post
Benjamin Bowman, violin "...above all, Benjamin Bowman showed marvelous eloquence" New York Times
Jamie Parker, piano Jamie Parker, whose musical imagination and gestural phrasing flew out from his fingers like spider-silk --THE CHRONICLE HERALD
