Ethereal Abandonment
What story is waiting to be told? Based on the photography series by Candance Casey, Ethereal Abandonment uncovers the history of an abandoned theater and tells the stories of dancers, actors and musicians who once brought the building to life. The stories overlap the past and present to understand how a neighborhood changes once these buildings close. Taking inspiration from Casey's photography, Chicago Danztheatre Ensemble's, Ellyzabeth Adler and RE|dance groups, Lucy Vurusic Riner collaborate to create new, original danztheatre works that incorporates both the untold stories and Casey's photographs. Through storytelling and physical memories of each character, Ethereal abandonment toggles between soft, melancholic moments to more joyful episodes. Chicago Danztheatre Ensembles Auditorium each night will be transformed into the abandoned theatre with a lively preshow gallery reception with food, drinks and art work from Ethereal Abandonment on display.
