An Evening of Respighi with Alison Cook Beatty Dance at City Center
On May 20th, 2017, Alison Cook Beatty Dance will perform the World Premiere of a NEW WORK and the revival of MURMURATION, choreographed by Alison Cook-Beatty, with music by Ottorino Respighi.
The World Premiere of the NEW WORK is set to the music of Respighi's Ancient Airs and Dances. Costumes are by Christine Darch.
The NEW WORK (UNTITLED) is influenced by the music of Ancient Airs and Dances, composed by Ottorino Respighi and inspired by Sandro Botticelli's paintings La Primavera and The Birth of Venus. Greek Gods and Goddesses, Venus, Mercury, Flora, Zephyros, Chloris, the three Graces, and Cupid are brought to life from these paintings.
The revival of MURMURATION, is set to the music of Gli Uccelli (The Birds). Costumes are by Christine Darch.
MURMURATION was choreographed in 2016. MURMURATION is a new work influenced by the music Gli uccelli (The Birds) composed by Ottorino Respighi, featuring the dove, hen, nightingale, cuckoo. This piece is heavily inspired by the aerial ballet of the starlings. Starlings gather in flocks called murmurations. They are a dazzling cloud, swirling, pulsating, drawing together to the thinnest of waists, then wildly twisting in pulses of enlargement and diminution
