An evening of high drama as Eddie Japan brings their elegant, 1960s-style pop to the intimate confines of the Lizard Lounge. The band is joined during their set by The Desperate Strings, the string quartet that graced their upcoming release, Modern Desperation, Part 1. As Boston Band Crush noted: "A set by Eddie Japan is just as likely to bring to mind Ennio Morricone, mariachi, anthemic guitar rock and the '60s wall of sound as it does moody British alternativeall of it blended together with tight hooks, dramatic flourishes, amazing musicianship..." Eddie Japan was formed around the singing and songwriting of David Santos, a character with a voice like Gene Pitney's and the world view of Morrissey. The band features a current member of Kingsley Flood, Chris Barrett, on trumpet and keyboards, and Eric Brosius of the late seminal Boston band Tribe on guitar. The bill is rounded out by two of Boston's best with the rambunctious, hedonistic glam and glitter of 2009 WBCN Rock 'n' Roll Rumble finalists Gene Dante and the Future Starlets, and the epic, Bowie-esque balladry and snort of The Daily Pravda.
