"Barretts Dottled Beauty is what you get when you cross a Kitchen Cynic with a Pefkin. Nursing an obsession equally with Syd Barrett and lepidoptera, Alan Davidson and Gayle Brogan formed this duo in 2016, playing semi-improvised experimental folk, informed by their shared interest in nature, folk song and noise. "St James Infirmary is primarily Gary Lang, the Ashington Brian Wilson (although depending on the night, he could equally be the Ashington Steven OMalley, the Ashington Klaus Wunderlich or the Ashington Father Yod). A veritable cottage industry, he self-releases a bewildering stream of music from his secret bunker at Marios Recording Services: everything from lush electro-pop to psychedelic jams, neighbour-sampling doom to baroque covers of Richard Dawson songs.
