Laura Kenyon: JUNE COOL...ALIVE!
BEEN ALOTTA PLACES, MET ALOTTA PEOPLE, DONE ALOTTA THINGS... THE FUTURE CAME AND WENT FAST!!!
Cabaret legend and Broadway star Laura Kenyon presents excerpts from a new musical she co-authored with Dennis Deal.
A woman of a certain age, a recording artist of a certain type, and now sole- proprietor of LP's she has recorded, selling boxes and boxes of records out of her New York apartment. So, in 1991, when record companies ceased production of LP's and focused on the "new kid in town" - the Compact Disk, June Cool and thousands of fellow artists were given, almost overnight, a pink slip.
Overwhelmed, in shock and defeated, June begins reminiscing about her easy, breezy past. Her Dad who launched her teen recording career, the men who came and went some slowly, some wham-bam - and Alan, the Village bohemian who was the one true love of June's life.
But never one to give up or in, June starts soliciting record companies in hopes of getting her albums converted to CD's. At first there were bites from Rhino Records, Folkways, Tower Records, but it wasn't until a young guy Steve Paradise - from Sony Classics discovers and delves deep into June's career and catalogue. He knows he's found the real thing and all she needs is a big-time break.
Here to the end, the story reveals itself with odds worthy of a Power Ball ticket, finally ending in a most unexpected and beautiful, but heartbreaking manner. The good news is that peace and perfect closure indeed do entwine, and JUNE and her music will live on, forever COOL!

"The first person to ever ask me to do a job, without having to audition, was DENNIS DEAL, way back in 1985. It's hard to articulate what that means to an actor. That was the beginning of our collaborative process, which 20 years later culminated in the creation of my one-man show! He is the penultimate collaborator, and what he brings to the table creatively is unparalleled. Couple all of that with great taste and style and you have the uniqueness that is DENNIS DEAL!" ~SCOTT BAKULA - Actor (Quantum Leap, NCIS-New Orleans)
"LAURA KENYON is bold, brassy, hilarious and someone youll never forget being in the same room with. Cancel everything else and go see her!!!" ~MICHAEL MUSTO - Cultural Critic
"I was introduced to DENNIS DEAL by Ben Bagley (Producer of The Shoe String Reviews in the 50s and 60s) who told Dennis that I was the perfect star for his new musical, NITE CLUB CONFIDENTIAL. It provided me with reviews I couldve only dreamt about. Working with DENNIS DEAL, such a multi-talented man who knew what he wanted, made it all funny, glamorous and even sad in a tongue-in-cheek film noir kinda way!" ~FAY DeWITT - Actress, Singer(Blue Angel, Bon Soir, Desert Inn, Vegas)
"KENYON is a dangerously brilliant performer. Her dazzling spontaneity as actress/singer/comedienne, can lead her audience from madness to joy, from despair to serenity-to a destination that is somewhere off a cliff and over a rainbow." ~CHERYL HARDWICK - SNL Musical Director/Writer
"I've know the incomparable DENNIS DEAL since the magnificent performances of the LA run of NITE CLUB CONFIDENTIAL. Hes without question, the brightest, cleverest, most original man I've ever worked with. The GREAT and true artist that is LAURA KENYON starred in the Boston run of NITE CLUB CONFIDENTIAL and my own play, DESIRE! I'm still laughing. No, really - I'm still laughing. I've heard the CD of THE LAST DAY OF JUNE and its anything BUT...its the FIRST Day of June!" ~PAUL COATES - Playwright/Agent
