Honorable Menschen: Chadeish Yameinu Jewish Renewal honors Mensch of the Year Rabbi Chaim "Howie" Schneider Join us for an evening of robust VEGAN h'or d'oeuvres and sweets, dancing and music, toasts and roasts to honor Rabbi Chaim "Howie" Schneider's many contributions to his Santa Cruz communities and to raise funds for his beloved Chadeish Yameinu.

Reb Howie found his calling as a mensch on his first day as a teenaged counselor at a camp for children with physical disabilities. After a stint in the Peace Corps and graduate education at Columbia University, he came to Santa Cruz in the late 1970s. He worked at the San Andreas Regional Center with people with developmental disabilities for twenty-five years. His volunteer and activist work included the Santa Cruz Community Switchboard, the Commission for People with Disabilities, feminist and LGBTQ causes,New Jewish Agenda and J Street. A member of Chadeish Yameinu, Temple Beth El and Congregation Kol Tefillah, he served as CY's Board President for ten years.
Speakers will include former Santa Cruz Mayor Bruce Van Allen, Rabbis Eli Cohen and Paula Marcus.
There will be a chance to win raffle prizes.
