Beyond Reimagining, Accelerating Praxis: Social Medicine in Practice Today
The Social Medicine Consortium's second annual conference, Beyond Reimagining, will help participants from across the health sector and beyond to better understand and act on the socioeconomic, historic, and structural factors that impact health. We welcome participation from healthcare workers, students, activists, and all other interested community members.
Conference Goals:
-Facilitating critical dialogue: creating a space for critical dialogue among health professionals and the broader community of social justice activists locally and globally toward a deeper understanding of social medicine, inequity in health, and opportunities for collaboration toward change.
- Training for change: training participants in the pedagogy of social medicine, including advocacy skills to build a platform for the year ahead.
- Disseminating best practice tools: sharing best practice tools being used in social medicine to develop practical skills and deepen strategic partnerships around curriculum development and transformative social medicine education.
- Reinforcing our commitment: radically reinforcing SMC's commitment to interprofessional and multisectoral engagement in social change among a diverse body of planners, speakers and participants, while broadening SMC membership beyond physician-led initiatives.
- Building solidarity: on the foundations of critical dialogue and community organizing, building solidarity and leadership in social medicine globally.
