"It's hilarious dance magic." (The Stranger)
"Their gender-bending act blends physical humor with expert choreography, the high artifice of drag with everyday life and gut-busting goofiness with real pathosMason and Kuehner perfectly capture the performative train wreck we both adore and fear." (Seattle Magazine)
out out there (A Whole Night Lost), is The Cherdonna and Lou Show's requiem of fears. They know they are afraid of the same things that everyone else is, but nevertheless Cherdonna and Lou can't help but wax poetic (with their signature brand of awkward hilarity) about the ugly stuff, from existential crisis to monsters under the bed. Where do our nightmares come from? What parts of us are built from terror? Who do we grasp onto to save ourselves? Cherdonna and Lou walk the fine line between tragedy and comedy as they dance, sing, and shout about the monsters they fear and the monsters they fear that fear will make them become.
out out there (A Whole Night Lost) was developed with support from 4Culture and was presented in workshop form to sold out houses last April at Velocity Dance Center. The completed work premiered as a headlining performance at Bumbershoot 2012 in The Bagley Wright Theater. The Cherdonna and Lou Show is thrilled to present out out there (A Whole Night Lost) at Seattle's historic Washington Hall November 2nd (8pm) and 3rd (8pm and 10pm).
The Cherdonna and Lou Show is a dance based performance duo founded in 2009, using choreography, personas, and the artifice of drag to reveal something true. As a team of choreographers, we (Jody Kuehner aka Cherdonna Shinatra and Ricki Mason aka Lou Henry Hoover) collaborate on each aspect of our work. While we utilize dance as our primary language, persona is one of the most recognizable elements of The Cherdonna and Lou Show. As queer artists we use drag to express and comment on the politics and societal constructions of gender identity. Drag also exaggerates our onstage personalities and provides context for the more abstract elements of our work. Humor is an integral part of The Cherdonna and Lou Show. We are obsessed with the moment in which comedy turns to tragedy, and the converse moment when something is pathetic to the point of hilarity. Cherdonna and Lou's willingness to express discomfort allows our audience to let go of their own inhibitions for a moment, and relate to the human experience.
