ABOUT THE CAUSES
Dzogadze Education Development Foundation (DEDF) After spending years learning in the village of Dzogadze, Ghana (West Africa), Curtis Andrews decided to do something give back to the community that has given him so much, thus creating the DEDF. Since its inception in 2007, this initiative has built a 3-classroom building, facilitated bringing electricity and secure, clean water to the community, assisted in malaria prevention measures and more. For the past number of years, most efforts have focused on a scholarship scheme to allow children from the village school to attend high school. Website: www.curtisandrews.ca/fund.htm
Nunya Music Academy After working hard to gain an PhD in ethnomusicology from the University of Pittsburgh, Dr. Kofi Gbolonyo felt the need to create the opportunity for other students in his community of Dzodze to avail of greater educational opportunities. His Nunya Academy is a music-focused initiative that upholds indigenous music and dance forms, while also imparting Western music education, maths and sciences with a global outlook.
