SUNSHINE
Choreographed and created by Tahni Holt, SUNSHINE is a dance duet between performers Lucy Yim and Robert Tyree with a pile of cardboard boxes. Sunshine's visual economy is driven by principles of fashion, minimalism, glamour and mass production. Nomadic piles of cardboard transform the visual composition, framing the dance disparately from moment to moment, and evoking a rich stew of relationships. The performers, battle against the desire to locate themselves in one paradigm, one story, one translation. They commit to the drawing of perpetual renewal: where multiple translations exist at once. SUNSHINE seduces many logics into embodiment: sculpture, glamour, little cities, mass production, homeless camps and resourcefulness. Inspired by the words of Chrysa Parkinson, "it's much more interesting to be confused by all the influences, all the possibilitiesto be sharp in your perceptual abilities and loose in your identity." our dancers identify as no one, but they do call upon iconic dance mannerisms and imagery as tools for construction (think Judson, classicalism, postmodernism, pop, and postmodern pop).
