Stories For Change
In a time of unprecedented media consolidation, local media outlets play a key role in informing our communities on local issues and helping to foster a participatory democracy.
The role of the community media center extends beyond television, radio, and protecting free speech; it must reach into the realm of social change as well as multiple modalities of content creation and distribution. How we reach our communities and reduce barriers is just as important as what we share with them.
Join us for a two-day summit on the role of community-based media in empowering the public and becoming change makers ourselves. The event culminates with an awards program, Best of the Northwest, in which exceptional non-commercial programs are honored.
Programming, screenings, and workshops will center around digital inclusion, equity, innovation, and building stronger communities and partnerships. We will focus on collaborative efforts between PEG, LPFM Radio, independent filmmakers, and other media creators.
Stories for Change is a local homage to the spirit of Challenge for Change/Societé Nouvelle, a Canadian social justice documentary program run by late documentary filmmaker, educator, and father of public access television, George C. Stoney.
