James Dapogny and the East Coast Chicagoans
Pianist James Dapogny has been touring the U.S. and Europe for decades, playing hot classic jazz and swing, both solo and with his "Chicago Jazz Band." Dapogny, professor emeritus at the University of Michigan, is an internationally known pianist, specializing in the music of Jelly Roll Morton, Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, and other greatsboth famous and obscureof the classic, pre-bop jazz era.
Jim will be presenting an evening concert of classic jazz and early swing featuring the East Coast Chicagoans, a hand-picked group of local jazz stars, on the evening of Friday, November 16, 2012. This will take place in the acoustically stunning sanctuary of Calvery Lutheran Church at 9545 Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring, Maryland. Showtime is 7:30pm.
Dapogny will be bringing his extensive library of charts, that he uses with his regular perming group, The Chicago Jazz Band.
In addition to Jim on piano, the band consists of: Randy Reinhart - cornet; Anita Thomas and Scott Silbert - clarinet and saxophone; David Sager (that's me) - trombone; Craig Gildner - guitar; Tommy Cecil - bass; Brooks Tegler - drums.
Tickets for this open-seating event are $20 (plus the Brown Paper Tickets surcharge).
