2016 Candlelight Concerts
The seventh annual Candlelight Concerts in memory of George Shangrow continues a tradition which George initiated with candlelight evenings of chamber music and holiday favorites over many decades. Chamber music both familiar and new is performed by some of the Northwests prominent soloists.

* * * Sunday, December 11, 2016 at 7:00 PM MOZART to CHOPIN Mark Salman ~ piano Sarah Hall ~ violin Jeffrey Cohan ~ flute Roxanna Patterson ~ viola Roberta Downey ~ cello Special guests pianist Mark Salman and violinist Sarah Hall join flutist Jeffrey Cohan, violist Roxanna Patterson and cellist Roberta Downey in an exploration of intimate chamber music from Mozart through Chopin including flute quartets by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Francois Devienne, a trio for flute, violin and viola by Frederigo Fiorillo, and three Mazurkas and a Polonaise for solo piano by Frederic Chopin among other works. * * * Sunday, December 18, 2016 at 7:00 PM FESTIVE BAROQUE Sarah Hall ~ violin with the Sans Souci Ensemble Jeffrey Cohan ~ flute Roxanna Patterson ~ viola Stephen Creswell ~ violin & viola Roberta Downey ~ cello Lisa Lewis ~ harpsichord Violinist Sarah Hall joins flutist Jeffrey Cohan and the Sans Souci Ensemble to perform the virtuoso Passacaglia by Handel (Halvorsen) for solo violin and other festive 18th-century works including Johann Sebastian Bach's Suite No. 2 for flute and strings, Bach's Trio Sonata in G Major for flute, viola, cello and harpsichord, a quintet by Friedrich Kuhlau, and Michel Corette's Noel Allemande, based on a German Christmas carol. * * * Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at 7:00 PM JAZZIN' with the CLASSICS by CANDLELIGHT for CHRISTMAS Linda Tsatsanis ~ soprano Tom Collier ~ vibraphone Jeffrey Cohan ~ flute Martin Lund ~ piano, clarinet and flute In this program by candlelight, classical and jazz artists and friends from classical and jazz realms meld their musical perspectives and personalities for the fifth year in this unusual collaboration and festive celebration of the Yuletide season that is guaranteed to generate an abundance of Christmas cheer. For the second year vibraphonist Tom Collier joins soprano Linda Tsatsanis, flutist Jeffrey Cohan and jazz pianist, clarinetist and flutist Martin Lund in an effort to to bridge contemporary improvisational jazz and art music of baroque and renaissance times by through the joyous melodies of the season. Instrumental musicians have "jazzed up" melodies familiar to them in the style of their day for centuries, and this team's virtuoso improvisations on Yuletide favorites, and their renditions of classical standards will bring together the best of jazz and classical worlds. A completely new program as usual for 2016. Also Whidbey Island (Dec. 19), Stanwood (Dec. 21), and on Orcas Island (Dec. 28).
