Our first show of 2017 will erase any doubt about the vitality of Americas folk music heritage. San Franciscos Evie Ladin Band was one of our big discoveries of 2016. These three sparkling musicians drill down into the African roots of Appalachian music and dance with clawhammer banjo, guitar, bass and fabulous body percussion, along with urban hip hop flourishes and global polyrhythms. Theyve wowed the audience at A Prairie Home Companion, Lincoln Center and Hardly Strictly Bluegrass. Joining them is Michigan duo Red Tail Ring, aka Michael Beauchamp and Laurel Premo. Their exquisite artistry infuses traditional tunes and original songs with musical imagination, haunting harmonies and instrumental prowess on fiddle, banjo, mandolin, jawharp, and plain-old foot stomping. The duos signature style of layered, intricate instrumental lines over close vocal harmonies is both rustic and elegant.
